Microframeworks in PHP: Silex (Stefan Koopmanschap)
Besides a whole serie of next generation PHP frameworks, there is another trend emerging in the PHP community: microframeworks. Small frameworks who only service a few basic tasks. But what is a micro-framework exactly? What is their purpose? How does it work? During this workshop we will answer those questions and we will look at one new microframework in particular: Silex. Together with some practical examples we will try to build a small application with Silex and look at some important features.
REST (Joshua Thijssen)
REST is a facinating concept. Most API’s that call themselves REST or RESTful, aren’t really. What needs to be taken care of when building a truly RESTful API, how do we avoid the pitfalls? And what do we mean by terms like safe methods, idempotency and HATEOAS?
- Explaination of what is REST.
- Explaination of the four basic principles of REST.
- Build a truly RESTfull API.
Attention: It is essential for both workshops to bring your own laptop. It is necessary to have a PHP 5.3 development environment. Because of timing issues, we cannot wait for students who do not have their environment properly setup.
